Add a Gradebook entry in D2L Brightspace for a quiz without scores

The default configuration in D2L BrightSpace with ScreenPal is to create gradebook entries for quizzes only after students have taken the quiz and ScreenPal sends their quiz score to Brightspace.
However, you might want a gradebook entry added in Brightspace as soon as you create a ScreenPal quiz, before students actually take it.  To do this, you will need to make some changes to your ScreenPal LTI configuration and quiz placement process within D2L Brightspace.

1. Begin by logging into D2L Brightspace as an Administrator.
2. Click the Admin Tools icon.  Then, under Organization Related, click External Learning Tools.

3. Click the ScreenPal LTI v1.3 plug-in.

4. On the Edit screen, scroll down to the Configuration Settings section. Clear the checkbox for Auto Create Gradebook Items, and then click Save.

5. Now, open a course, and then select a course module.
6. Within the module, click Existing Activities and select External Learning Tools.

7. On the Add Activity dialog, click the Create New LTI Link button.

8. Enter a Title for the quiz activity.
9. For LTI URL, enter https://screenpal.com/lti-1p3/launch
10. For Tool, ensure that ScreenPal LTI v1.3 plug-in is selected.

11. Click Create and Insert.
12. Back on the course module page, click the name of the quiz.  This opens a new tab in your browser with the ScreenPal content selection box displayed.
13. Click the quiz you'd like to add to the course module, and select your Quiz Options as you normally would.  When you're finished, click Embed Quiz.
14. Close the tab with the ScreenPal quiz displayed on it, and go back to the Activity Details page in Brightspace.
15. Under Assessment, click Add a grade item, and then click New Grade Item.

16. This opens the New Grade Item box. Enter a Name for the grade item, and then scroll down and enter the quiz information as necessary.  Finally, click Create.

You can now go to Grades and view the grade item you just created.

17. Next, go to Assignments and then click New Assignment.

18. Enter a Title and Instructions for the quiz assignment.  Be sure that Grade Out Of is set to Ungraded. Otherwise, a duplicate grade entry will be added to your Gradebook after students take the quiz.

19. Click the Attach Link to Existing Activity icon.

20. On the Insert Quicklink box, in the Course Materials list, click External Learning Tools.

21. Select your quiz.

21. This opens the quiz within the assignment. Click Save and Close.

Students can take the quiz.  When they do, their scores will be updated in the item you added to your Gradebook.
