If you were previously using Canvas with ScreenPal LTI version 1.1, follow the steps outlined in
Set Up ScreenPal with the Canvas LMS using the LTI v1.3 app to upgrade to LTI version 1.3.
This applies to you if you have an existing installation of LTI v1.1 from the Canvas app store, or an existing manual installation of LTI v1.1.
Important: After you have finished the installation process detailed in the article above, ScreenPal videos embedded in Canvas using LTI v1.1 will continue to work, provided that you used deep linking to embed them (embedding a ScreenPal video in a Description field, for example). Resource links, however, will no longer work if you remove LTI v1.1. Resource links are those added using the Change Content bar at the top of a video. If your organization is currently using resource links, you should leave LTI version 1.1 installed until version 1.3 has been installed and thoroughly tested, and all resource links added using v1.1 have been replaced.
Once LTI v1.3 is installed, be sure not add new video embeds using the old LTI 1.1 tool.
FAQ:
What if I need to modify an existing assignment to choose a different ScreenPal video or change the settings of a currently embedded video?
When using LTI v1.1, you would typically see a grey bar displayed in the Content box for an embedded ScreenPal video when logged into Canvas as a teacher or administrator. This grey bar included an Edit button. With LTI v1.3 this bar is no longer displayed. In order to choose a different ScreenPal video or change the settings of a currently embedded video, simply complete these steps:
1. Delete the current video embed from the assignment.
2. Launch the new ScreenPal LTI v1.3 tool.
3. Select a new video or select the video that was previously embedded so you can modify the embed settings.
4. Save and publish.
That's it!
What if I have an existing assignment that contains multiple videos, and I just want to change one of them or add more?
You can add new LTI v1.3 videos into the same field that contains a video embedded using LTI v1.1. If you already have multiple videos within a single assignment description field, you can remove the one you would like to replace, and then use the new LTI v1.3 tool to replace it with a new video.
