Unable to edit an imported video

Why can't I import or edit this video?

Most likely, the video is saved with High Efficiency (HEVC or HEIF), meaning that the video has been encoded with a compression method that we cannot read. Videos saved from iOS or Android devices are sometimes saved in HEVC/HEIF mode, over more standard formats, to reduce file size and save space. If you'd like to change this setting on your device, follow the steps below.

We support the more common standard format for videos, H.264. You will need to use a third-party tool to convert the videos. You can find these converters online.

How do I change this setting on my iOS or Android device (to stop this from happening)?

To easily import and edit videos, make sure that your videos are saved in a compatible format.

iOS (iPhone or iPad)

  1. On iOS, you can access your camera settings by visiting, Settings > Camera > Formats.
  2. Choose Most Compatible.

Android

The settings vary on Android devices, but they are typically in the camera app. Our app cannot import videos that are saved in High Efficiency (HEIF or HEVC) mode. You'll want to choose JPEG/H.264 or Most Compatible
