ScreenPal Chromebook app retirement

ScreenPal will be retiring the Chromebook app.  This means that as of February 27, 2026, the ScreenPal Chromebook app will no longer be available for download in the Google Play Store. 

Once the ScreenPal app is removed from the Google Play Store, it will remain on your Chromebook if it is currently installed. You can continue to use the app to manage your existing ScreenPal projects.  Any videos that you have exported from the app will stay saved on your device and will remain accessible outside of the app.  ScreenPal will provide technical support and critical updates for the Chromebook app until August 27, 2026. 

Although the Chromebook app will remain installed on any existing devices, future ChromeOS updates may affect how the app functions on those devices.  If you are a Team Administrator, please reach out to our Support team for instructions on how to install the app during the sunset period (February 27th - August 27th, 2026).

As you transition away from the ScreenPal Chromebook app, you can use the ScreenPal Online Screen Recorder and Online Video Editor for easy-to-use browser-based screen recording and video editing.  These online tools work seamlessly with Chromebooks and no installation or administrative permissions are required for their use.  The Online Screen Recorder and Video Editor are fully supported by ScreenPal, FERPA and COPPA compliant, and are accessible via the same ScreenPal account you are currently using.

How long can I use the Chromebook app?

We will offer technical support and critical updates until August 27th, 2026.  After this it's recommended that you transition to the online tools.

How does the online screen recorder and video editor compare to the Chromebook app?

There are new AI powered features in the online tools such as filler word and text to video, slides to video, silence removal, text-based video editing, and more.   Also, any new features for Chromebook would be targeted to the online tools.  

What can I do with my existing Chromebook app videos stored on my device or Google Drive?

You can easily upload those video files to your ScreenPal hosting account.  Once upoaded they are available for editing using our Online Video Editor.

I have a ScreenPal subscription, what happens?

Your ScreenPal subscriptions works across apps and devices (up to 5) so you will enjoy all the paid features associated with you plan, whether you are using the Chromebook app for after you have transitioned to the online screen recorder and video editor.

I have a subscription through my school's Team Plan, what happens?

The administrator of your team plan has already been contacted and our support team is ready to assist in the transition.  Contact your plan owner or administrator for next steps.
