Recorded audio sounds slow and distorted (Windows)

Computer Audio

If you record Computer Audio and it sounds slow or distorted during playback, it may be due to your system’s audio playback settings. Here are the steps to check and adjust these settings:


  1. On the far right of the Windows Taskbar, right-click on the speaker icon and select Sound settings from the pop-up menu: Windows sound settings menu

  2. In the Sound settings window, scroll down to the Advanced section and select More sound settings:

  3. In the Sound window that opens, select the desired speaker (should be Default Device), then click the Configure button: Sound window with default speaker highlighted and arrow pointing to Configure button

  4. In the Speaker Setup window that pops up, set Audio Channels to Stereo

  5. Click Next, Next again, then Finish

  6. Click OK to close the Sound control panel window


Narration (Microphone) Audio

If you record Narration and the audio sounds slow or distorted, it may be due to your system’s microphone settings. Here are the steps to check and adjust these settings:


  1. On the far right of the Windows Taskbar, right-click on the speaker icon and select Sound settings from the pop-up menu: Windows sound settings menu

  2. In the Sound settings window, scroll down to the Advanced section and select More sound settings: More sound settings

  3. Navigate to the Recording tab, then double-click the desired microphone: Recording tab of Sound window

  4. In the Microphone Properties window that pops up, navigate to the Advanced tab.

  5. If a Signal Enhancements section is present, uncheck the Enable audio enhancements checkbox:

  6. Click Apply, then OK.

  7. Click OK to close the Sound control panel window.
