When you add ScreenPal content to Canvas using the ScreenPal LTI v1.3 plug-in, you can insert it using deep linking or resource linking.
Deep Linking
Deep linking provides a quick, simple way to embed ScreenPal content in a rich text box within Canvas, without using an embed code from ScreenPal. Students can then view the ScreenPal content from a Canvas course, assignment, or discussion, without leaving ever leaving Canvas.
For example:
If you are would like to assign a ScreenPal quiz within Canvas, and automatically sync the quiz scores from ScreenPal back to your Canvas Gradebook, please see the next section for information about resource links.
Resource Links
Resource links provide a more data-rich connection between Canvas and ScreenPal. When you add a ScreenPal quiz to a Canvas assignment, use a resource link to allow ScreenPal to synchronize the quiz grades with Canvas. Quizzes embedded in Canvas using deep linking will not allow data pass-back, so quiz results will only be viewable within ScreenPal.
To add a quiz as a resource link, follow these steps:
1. Within an assignment, for Submission Type select External Tool from the drop-down list.
2. Under Enter or find an External URL, enter https://screenpal.com/lti-1p3/launch.
3. Scroll down and click Save & Publish.
4. The ScreenPal content selection dialog displays within the assignment. Click the Quizzes tab and select the quiz you would like to include for your students.
5. Select the Video Options and Quiz Options and then click the Embed quiz button.
When students view the assignment, they will see the ScreenPal quiz loaded within it. They can play the video and select their answers to the quiz questions without leaving the Canvas assignment.
More detailed information about how to sync ScreenPal quiz scores with Canvas can be found in
this tutorial.
Note: If you are creating course blueprints in Canvas and you use resource links, the template will simply display a link to a video that takes you back to the ScreenPal content selection dialog, rather than the specific video that was originally inserted. We are currently working on a fix for this issue.
